What Am I (Not) Doing Here Anyway

2015 | Video-essay | Installation: LEDTV, Pillows, Wooden construction | ±15min.

"In this video I will try to tell you a short story about what I do in my studio." While several objects are, one by one, presented and interacted with on a dark grey setting, subtitles comment and analyse my behavior as an artist in my studio in a psychotherapeutic way.

In this work, I used objects from my personal collection, mostly things I created and found during my time at the art academy. These collected objects, some of which have personal significance, serve as a visual reflection of my time at the art academy. As I interact with them on screen, they become symbols of the learning, experimentation, and creative processes that defined my study years. This video is, in a sense, a way of looking back at that time—examining the challenges, growth, and discoveries that have shaped my artistic practice.

As an artist, thinking and talking about the processes of making something can sometimes be quite a challenge. The right words seem to be missing, the point of what you were doing might disappear and a state of confusion is luring around the corner. In this video, an attempt is made to explain the duality between processes of thinking and making in an equally playful and critical way. Fears and anxieties around making decisions as well as moments of pleasure and joy around the aesthetics of everyday objects arise to the foreground.
