Praxis and Phronesis
2015 | Scripted performance | ±25min
Praxis and phronesis were part of the vocabulary of ancient Greek philosophers to describe practical wisdom (phronesis) and thoughtful, practical doing (praxis). In this scripted performance, I used these concepts to reflect on the contrast between thinking and doing, between rational thought and intuition.
In the performance, I used objects from my own collection, each one carefully selected to serve as both a physical manifestation and a metaphor for different aspects of the 'head vs. heart conflict.' The collection consisted of items that, to me, represented moments of thoughtful reflection or spontaneous play.
I employed a lot of visual and textual metaphors to depict this internal struggle, where the heart (intuition) just wants to play, go with the flow, be surprised, and be tempted, the mind (ratio), tires to conceptualize, define, reflect, analyze, and continuously question everything. How to bring them together, reconcile those two sides, or were they never seperate in the first place?
